The benefits of tea in disease prevention

Tea has a scientific name: Camellia sinensis. This type of plant derived from China and people knew to use tea since 2.500 years BC. There are four popular types of tea: green tea, black tea, white tea and oolong tea.

In these four, green tea is supposed to be the best because the nature of the fresh leaves is preserved. However, drink black tea every day is still good for health.

Tanin: Tanin reduces the absorption of iron, for that reason, we should not take a supplement containing iron with tea, and people with iron deficiency should not drink tea.

 Caffeine: also known as theine, accounting for 1.5% to 5%. Thanks to caffeine, we feel awake and more excited when drinking tea. Nevertheless, some people will suffer from insomnia or heart palpitations. The amount of caffeine in tea is actually not harmful to health, but because it can affect the sleep so it is best not to drink tea in the evening.

 Nutrients: such as vitamin B1, B2 and the compound has the common name bioflavanoid (have antioxidant effect), which disable free radicals – harmful substances causing many diseases. Bioflavanoid will protect cells, blood vessels as well as slowing down the aging process in the body. Analysis showed that a cup of tea contains about 200mg bioflavonoid. If you drink three cups of tea per day, after three weeks, the amount of antioxidants in the blood will increase by 25%.

Fluor: tea contains many elements with high content of fluoride (a cup of tea has about 0.3 micrograms of flouride). Hence, drink tea daily will help protect teeth and strengthen tooth enamel. One more thing, when drinking tea, we will compensate for the amount of water lost in daily activities. Especially when working in hot conditions, in the sun, drinking tea helps reduce fatigue. Currently, many studies demonstrated that regularly drink tea, especially green tea, can prevent many diseases. Specifically, drinking green tea can reduce the risk of oropharyngeal cancer, esophageal cancer and breast cancer. The main compounds in tea, EGCG will help very much in “cleaning up” free radicals, which is the cause DNA damage, cell damage that lead to cancer.

Green tea has been proven to significantly improve the operation of the blood vessels in the body. Bioflavonoid compounds found in green tea helps reduce the risk of cardiovascular diseases such as myocardial infarction, coronary artery disease. Particularly for people with cardiovascular disease, drinking tea can help improve the condition. It was discovered that patients drinking green tea have mortality rate less than 28% in comparison with non-tea drinkers. And last but not least, tea was also identified as a kind of drink that has anti-aging effect because it contains vitamin C, E and beta-carotene.

In short, tea is a refreshing drink with a lot of benefits, and the most significant one has been proven by science is disease prevention and health protection.
