Green tea

For more information, a study of the University of Toronto, Canada, found that patients with type 2 diabetes had a 20% reduced blood sugar if they take American ginseng capsules 40 minutes before or during meals.

Experts recommend that people with diabetes should take 1 to 3 grams of ginseng per day in the form of capsules, tablets or 3-5 ml of ginseng water 3 times a day.


A scientific review in 2011 of 8 different clinical studies showed that consumption of cinnamon (both crude and extract) can reduce considerably the level of sugar in blood in people with diabetes type 2 or prediabetes.

For more information, a study published in Diabetes Care magazine (USA) showed that people with diabetes type 2 need from 1.3 to 6 grams of cinnamon per day for 40 consecutive days to lower glucose level, as well as triglycerides, cholesterol LDL and cholesterol in blood.

Blueberry leaves

A study published in The Canadian Medical Association Journal concluded the extract of blueberry leaves can stabilize carbohydrate tolerance in people with diabetes. This allows considerable control of insulin levels.

Gymnema sylvestre

This herb is used to treat diabetes type 1 and type 2 in India for over 2000 years. It has been proved to help reduce blood sugar and stimulates the production of insulin.

Blood sugar can be controled more effectively for both diabetes type 1 and type 2 when supplementing 800 mg of gymnema extract every day.

Bitter melon

The type of vegetable is usually planted in the tropical areas and subtropics such as South America and Asia, very bitter, but also very rich in vitamins and minerals. It contains at least 3 substances proven to have anti-diabetic properties: charantin, vicine and a compound similar to insulin called polypeptide-p. These three substances can work independently or work together to help reduce blood sugar levels.

A study in 2011 showed that people with type 2 diabetes who ate 2000mg bitter melon per day successfully reduced their blood sugar levels. If you are diabetic, eat fresh bitter melon, drink juice or cook with other foods.
